UPDATE:gang rape of Pinays in UAE

E-mail claiming gang rape of Pinays in UAE a hoax: report

MANILA, Philippines – The video showing an alleged injured Filipina gang rape victim in United Arab Emirates (UAE) is spreading on the Internet and social networking site Facebook, yet an online report noted that the e-mail pertaining to the incident is a hoax.
Quoting officials from the Philippine embassy, the online version of Abu Dhabi Media Company’s “The National” reported on February 28 that the contents of the e-mail were false and unverified.
The controversial e-mail claimed that 2 Filipinas were gang-raped by Pakistanis behind the Marina Mall last February 20. One of them reportedly died, while the other was being treated at the Sheikh Khalifa Medical City.
The source of the information was purportedly a female staff member at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City.
“We had this investigated and there’s no such incident… There’s no one at Sheikh Khalifa or in the morgue,” Consul General Adelio Angelito Cruz said in an article written by Ramona Ruiz.
The e-mail also claimed that 2 other Filipinas were raped last January in Musaffah, “The National” reported.
Warning to women
“The National” reported that the writer of the e-mail even called on Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Grace Princesa and Fr. Troy de los Santos from St. Joseph’s Cathedral “to emphasize awareness and vigilance among overseas Filipino workers in Abu Dhabi.”
Princesa, according to the report, maintained that the contents of the e-mail were “based on hearsay.”
Cruz told “The National” that even if the e-mail writer’s intention to warn women to be careful was “clear and good,” he said “one should not send a report if it is unverified.”
A Migrante official, UAE branch Secretary-General Nhel Morona, also told “The National” that he replied to the e-mail sender who identified himself as “Edgar.”
“I told him that our group would like to help our two compatriots and their families,” Morona told the UAE newspaper. “He told me that it was a police case and that it would be difficult to get information due to security reasons. But he promised to forward more information to me.”
Morona said “Edgar” did not reply when he asked for the name and contact details of the female hospital staff member, the alleged source of the information on the gang rape incident.
“We wanted to conduct our own investigation,” he added. “Since I’ve not received a reply from ‘Edgar’, we consider this a hoax e-mail,” he said.
John Leonard Monterona, Migrante-Middle East regional coordinator, added: “First things first: verification and conducting a thorough investigation by the RP posts officials. And from its findings, the RP post must act swiftly. If it’s true, then the alleged Pakistani suspects must be hunted down and file an appropriate criminal case against them.”
Video
Months after "The National" article came out, the video showing the purported injured Filipina gang rape victim in UAE is fast circulating online.
The viral video, titled “pls help spread the video pr makarating s kinauukulan,” showed a woman who had deep cuts on her face and body being attended to by a hospital’s medical staff. It has been removed from YouTube due to terms of use violation.
The woman was allegedly a Filipina working in Abu Dhabi. She and another Filipina were purportedly drunk and were about to go home from a party when the crime happened.
They allegedly hailed a taxi driven by a Pakistani then fell asleep inside the cab. The driver allegedly called up his friends and brought the victims to an undisclosed location where they took turns in raping the Filipinos.
The suspects then used a sharp object to slash the victims’ face and body. One of the Filipinas died on the spot, while the other reportedly escaped. She ended up in the hospital and died 3 days later.
