Iligan fire razes 100 homes, but spares chapel, mosque

At least 100 houses were razed in a two-hour predawn fire that hit Iligan City Monday, even as a chapel and a mosque there were "miraculously" spared.

Radio dzXL reported the fire occurred in Saray village, even as arson investigators are still trying to determine what caused the blaze.

The report said many residents considered it a miracle of sorts that a Catholic chapel and a mosque in the area were not affected.

Some eight fire trucks from neighboring areas rushed to the scene. Firefighters had a hard time as strong winds fanned the flames.

Arson investigators are verifying information that the fire started at the house of a couple that was arguing, or at a house where a pot session was recently held. — RSJ, GMANews.TV
