MANILA, Philippines - People's Champ Manny Pacquiao said he has no qualms about taking on Juan Manuel Marquez for a third time as long as he gets the fight purse that he deserves.
Speaking to reporters in the House of Representatives, the fighting congressman from Sarangani province said he will easily defeat Marquez despite earning a controversial draw in their first bout in 2004 and his split decision win over the Mexican champ in 2008.
"If it's Juan Manuel Marquez, that would be easy. Even if you wake me up in the middle of the night and asked me to sign a contract, that's easy. But the problem is - you can't just promote a match when the promoter would lose money. Boxing is also a business," he said.
Pacquiao said he does not believe that a lot of people are interested in another bout between him and Marquez.
"If I was boxing fan, I don't think I would watch a Marquez and Pacquiao fight," he said.
He added that if a fight is sealed between him and Marquez, he would want a single promoter handling the fight and that his purse be guaranteed.
"They can do the promotion solo, give us a guaranteed purse and they will take care if they earn or lose money. I will have no problem just as long as our earnings are ensured," he said.
Marquez is set to defend his World Boxing Association (WBA)/World Boxing Organization (WBO) lightweight titles against Michael Katsidis of Australia in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 27. The bout comes just 2 weeks after Pacquiao defeated Mexican challenger Antonio Margarito in Nevada.
Marquez has repeatedly called out for a rematch with Pacquiao after saying that he actually defeated the Filipino in their first 2 bouts.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao said he will take a 6-month break from boxing to concentrate on his duties as a congressman.
