MANILA, Philippines(UPDATED) - A Filipina who was set to leave for work overseas gave birth inside the restroom of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 Tuesday morning.
Mary Suzie Campana, 23, from Carcar, Cebu was all set to board a plane to Taiwan when she gave birth in the NAIA 1 lavatory.
Janitress Marcy Eta told police she saw Campana bringing rolls of tissue paper inside a restroom cubicle. After waiting for 30 minutes, she asked Campana if she needed help and was told that she was not finished.
Eta said she called the NAIA medical team after taking a peek inside the cubicle and seeing blood on the floor.
Another Filipina, Rosemarie Alberta, said Campana had given birth inside the cubicle.
She said she had to suck out blood from the baby's nose to allow it to breathe after it swallowed blood and water.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development has taken custody of the baby. The mother is under investigation for not disclosing that she had given birth.
Authorities said Campana could face infanticide charges if it is proven that she had tried to stuff the baby in the toilet.
