MANILA, Philippines - Filipino-American pitcher Tim Lincecum powered the San Francisco Giants to win their first World Series title since 1954 on Monday, defeating the Texas Rangers 4-1 to capture Major League Baseball's best-of-seven final.
It was the sixth all-time World Series crown for the Giants but their first in 56 years and the first since they moved to California from New York in 1958.
San Francisco's Edgar Renteria, a 35-year-old Colombian shortstop, blasted a three-run home run in the seventh inning for the decisive hit. In 1997, he singled home the Series-winning run for the Florida Marlins in a seventh game.
