DFA reminds applicants: Claim passports within 6 months

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has reminded applicants to claim their passports within six months from the passports’ release, as these will be disposed of after the specified period.

“The DFA -Office of Consular Affairs (DFA-OCA) wishes to remind all passport applicants to claim their passports within six months from its release," the DFA said in a press release on Thursday.

“Pursuant to DFA regulations, all unclaimed passports at the DFA-OCA main office in Paranaque, Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) Passport Extension Office, Regional Consular Offices (RCOs) nationwide or at the Philippine Embassies and Consulates General will be cancelled and immediately disposed of after six months," the DFA said.

The DFA began issuing electronic passports in October 2009, in compliance with standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
