MANILA, Philippines – Police plan to file charges against a couple for allegedly abusing a house helper.
Mario and Cynthis Regis are accused of abusing their house helper, 26-year-old Edna Rose Teprado from Iloilo, said Chief Inspector Anita Araullo of the Manila Police Department’s Women's (MPD) Desk.
The couple will appear at the MPD headquarters on Wednesday morning with their lawyers, Araullo said.
Teprado, meanwhile, is under the custody of the Women's Desk and may be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development on Wednesday.
Lerma Lescano, chairperson of Barangay 612, said Teprado started working for the couple on May 9, 2008.
She said a maid who worked for the couple before Teprado also ran away.
Lescano said that Teprado asked for help, saying her employers don't let her eat and abuse her physically.
