Cop accused of raping woman inside MPD headquarters

MANILA, Philippines - A Manila police officer is facing criminal and administrative charges after he allegedly raped a woman inside the Manila Police District (MPD) headquarters on Dec. 31, 2010.
Complainant "Vanessa" said she and her husband were in Carriedo, Manila at 5:30 a.m. on December 31 when Police Officer 3 Antonio Bautista Jr. arrested them for vagrancy.
Bautista took them to the MPD headquarters on United Nations Avenue for processing, and ordered Vanessa to enter the office of the MPD Integrity Task Force, a special unit that investigates police misdemeanors.
The police officer had to remove the glass beside the office door to be able to open the door from the inside, according to Senior Inspector Ronald Andres, chief of the task force.
Vanessa said Bautista allegedly raped her on top of Andres's desk, and even took P4,000 from her wallet.
"Sa takot ko ginawa ko na lang po yung sinasabi niya (In my fear, I just did what he told me to do)," she said.
Andres said Bautista should not have made an arrest since he was on duty as a desk officer of the District Intelligence Division.
He said the police officer is facing rape and robbery charges as well as administrative charges for grave misconduct and malicious mischief. "Nakakalungkot lang, dito pa sa headquarters ginawa," he said.
Superintent Ernesto Fojas, chief of the District Intelligence Division, said Bautista has yet to report for work after the incident. He added that the complainant has also gone into hiding.
"Binibigyan ko siya ng hanggang alas-6. Pag di siya sumuko, pasensiyahan na lang, massive manhunt na siya," he said. Report by Maan Macapagal, ABS-CBN News
