Lapid absent for a month; Enrile says may be ill

MANILA, Philippines – Senator Lito Lapid, who is reportedly in the United States, has not reported for work for a month now, Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile said Tuesday.

He said Lapid was initially allowed to be absent from the upper House up to November 19, 2010.

“Ngayon, humingi ng extension dahil di makabalik pero they did not disclose to me kung bakit di makabalik but I suspect baka may sakit,” Enrile said in a telephone interview.

“Kasi di naman ganun si Lito, eh. So I can’t give an official time to be away, you have to be marked absent.”

Enrile said he extended Lapid’s leave until December 19 only.

“I have not talked to him, I have not talked to his people,” he added. “Di nila sinabi kung bakit gusto ng extension, basta sinabi lang di sya makabalik.”

Lapid was officially marked absent after November 19. “He could not answer the roll and he's not on official time anymore,” according to the Senate president. - Report from Ryan Chua, ABS-CBN News
